You can now have your company’s location and working hours automatically shown on Google Calendar. Just turn the setting on!

For a long time, many workers shared their location and hours to help coworkers and managers schedule meetings with them. However, this is about the change for Google Now at Work: it has just rolled out a brand new feature called Working Location that makes sharing your work location and hours mandatory.

IT Admins that use the tool have access to a range of features like automatic location planning, meeting management, and employee tracking.

While the new Working Location setting is aimed at improving hybrid working coordination, will constantly requiring workers to disclose their whereabouts be one step too far?

Google wants to help business owners and employees who want to switch up their workspace on a regular basis. It’s now introducing new “Working Location” settings that allow you to select a working location for your company or yourself.

Now seamlessly integrated with Google Drive, Google Workspace is a collaborative platform that serves over three billion global users.

With this latest integration, Google has made it easier than ever to collaborate across time zones. The new feature “Working Location,” is just the latest example of their continued effort to address the global workforce.

The new setting that was released in a blog post by the company yesterday will allow companies to encourage, or require, members of their staff to display their working location and hours across the platform. IT admins do not need to opt-in in order for this setting to show up on your Google calendar, but if they choose you can customize the banner based on how urgent you need it to be.

Google states that the rollout of this update will make it easier for companies to manage and coordinate remote teams and see where employees are viewing calls and when. They also state that the flexible, easy-to-customize, banner system is able to stay online as long as admins want it to.

However, while this setting could be beneficial to managers and company administrators, for the 59% of employees who are already sick of employee surveillance, disturbing them further may lead to an increase in privacy concerns.

The great thing about Google Workspace is that it’s an easy and intuitive interface. Either side of the fence will be able to find what they’re looking for, providing seamless collaboration on projects.
