After you install and activate Virtru, a series of popup explainers walk through the available features.
You can set your encrypted messages to expire after an interval from minutes to years, and prevent recipients from forwarding them. In addition, you can watermark attached documents and add protection that lasts even after the recipient downloads them.
The recipient of a Virtru-encrypted message gets a notification like this, with a link to unlock the actual message and an optional personalized introduction.
From the online secure reader, your recipients can send a secure reply. They can also securely forward the message, providing you haven’t disabled forwarding.
The watermark feature marks documents of supported types with a watermark of your email address, proving that the document came from you.
A clever snoop who somehow captured the link to read a secure message can’t just read it willy-nilly. If the request doesn’t demonstrably come from the specified recipient, Virtru requires additional authentication.
The online Virtru dashboard tracks your secured email messages and files, with icons that identify attachments and let you know whether the recipient read the message.
From the dashboard you can change a message’s security settings, for example adding or modifying its expiration or disabling the option to forward it. You can also revoke all access with a click.
