How to Search Google From an iMessage Chat

You’re in the middle of a text conversation with someone on your iPhone or iPad and you need to look up some information through Google. Do you have to exit your message and call up the Google Search app? Nope.

Thanks to a special Google search extension, you can call up a Google search just by tapping on the Google icon in the iMessage app. From there, you can check out the current weather, look for local restaurants, scan for nearby businesses, see what’s in the news, and track down videos on any topic. Best of all, you can share your search results with the person you’re texting. Let’s look at how to search Google while texting someone.

Enable Google Search

On your iPhone or iPad, open the iMessage app and start or resume a conversation with someone. To run a Google search, tap on the App icon. Swipe across the icons and tap the one for Google.

Search and Share

Type what you want to search for on Google in the search field. Tap the Share link next to any result you want to share with the person on the other end of your texts.

Text GIFs

Want to text someone a funny or clever GIF? Tap on the GIF button at the end of the Google search field. Narrow down the gallery of GIFs by typing a phrase such as “Happy Birthday” or “Bon Voyage.” Tap on the GIF you want to text.

Share Weather Forecasts

At the Search feature, tap on the Weather icon to see the local temperature for today and the forecasts for the next few days. Tap on the Share link next to any weather forecast that you want to text to the other person.

Share Local Restaurants

Tap on the Food icon to see a list of local restaurants. Tap on the Share link next to any restaurant listings that you want to text.

Similarly, tap the Nearby icon to find local museums and other attractions that may interest you and the person on the other end. Tap on the Share icon for any listing you want to include in a text.

Share Trending News

At the Search feature, tap the icon for Trending. Here, you can view results for trending news items. Scroll down the list of stories and tap the one you want to view. Tap on the Share icon for any stories you want to text.

Share Videos

Finally, tap on the Videos icon. Movie trailers, promos, and other current videos appear. You can play any video by tapping on the Play button. To text it to the other person, tap on the Share link.
