Pixel smartwatch has officially debuted and is Operating with Fitbit wear OS.

Despite the redesigns and new app integrations, Fitbit’s first foray into the smartwatch market hasn’t inspired a lot of confidence among its supporters. Some of the changes include an orientation to fitness tracking and Fitbit’s debut of the new Fitbit OS.

$350 is a great starting point for the first smartwatch that’s being developed by Google.

The $349 (£339, AU$549) Pixel Watch features a circular design, dark menus and Fitbit’s fitness tracking. It surface at the Pixel event last week alongside the Pixel 7 Pro and 7 phones.

The announcement about the Pixel Watch came during Google’s I/O developers conference in May. After going through some of the core details about pricing, design and features for October, Google announced what the watch would look like and provide a preview of its software.

Google’s new line-up of Pixel smartphones and watches is everything you would expect from a top-notch product.

Google unveils the Pixel 7, a device with new Tensor Chip technology, and a better camera. That’s not all — it has been designed to deliver pure Android experience on the smartphone- there is no third-party software whatsoever.

Along with a $350 Pixel Watch including Fitbit health tracking, Google is also selling a $150 headset that can turn any pair of headphones into Google Assistant compatible smart headphones.

The first Google-branded smartwatch is the Pixel Watch, coming under its flagship brand as part of a renewed push into hardware. The company has largely been absent from the market, but the new product comes at an important time as it establishes itself in the increasingly competitive mobile device industry.

The Pixel Watch is a beautifully designed smartwatch, but it’s hard to compare itself to the decades of technology that have come out over the course of the watch’s seven-year life span. Apple leads the smartwatch industry with 29% market share, as of September 2018, according to Counterpoint Research. Samsung lags behind with 9%, a number that trails far behind Apple’s lead.

The Pixel Watch, one of the most beautiful Android smartwatches on the market, already looks promising. The Fitbit Health platform is also compelling but it could complicate how Google plans to proceed with its own Wear OS offerings.

The $300 Fitbit Sense 2, on the other hand, includes additional health and wellness capabilities such as skin temperature measurements and the ability to detect signs of stress. Whether the Pixel Watch becomes a hit could be an indicator of what consumers value most in a smartwatch.

Pixel Watch is on top of the best-looking smartwatch list. Not only does it have a sleek, elegant design with its scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5, but it’s also more like a traditional watch than most other smartwatches out there.

The Water-Resistant watches, like the Apple watch and Fitbit, are available in four finish options: matte black with an obsidian band, polished silver with a charcoal band, polished silver with a chalk band, and champagne gold with a hazel band.

There are many styles of bands to choose from. From lightweight sports bands to weave-style sleep trackers, you’ll find it hard to pick just one. I liked the stretch band, which was surprisingly light and soft. You can wear it while doing chores or bedtime routine as a way to keep your wrist safe and stylish.

Replacing the watch band is relatively simple. You need to press a button where the watch band connects to the housing, and then slide it in the same direction. It took me a couple of times to get used to it, but it’s pretty easy once you have a good handle on it.

The Pixel Watch feels like the closest competitor to Apple’s Apple Watch, except it’s round and has more premium materials than a square version. I’ve had some deja vu wearing my new Pixel Watch that conforms to my taste in design because of the Onyx strap material, but the subdued design still manages to stand out from most other watches on the market.

Although I did notice a few personal touches and cosmetic improvements in this generation of smartwatches, unfortunately the watch is still wide. The display does look a little bit more seamless with the rest of the unit, but it still has that same problem. That said, I’ll have to spend some time with it before I can tell if these factors negatively impact the experience overall.

Pixel Watch is a combination of Google and Fitbit technology

The Pixel Watch is a smartwatch with Google’s Wear OS software and inherits some of Fitbit’s health features. The days I’ve used the watch in person, the software looks like Fitbit’s new improved interface on the Sense 2. It also feels fast and snappy. Unlike on the Fitbit Sense 2, I felt like I was gliding around the operating system, whereas there’s sometimes a pause when launching apps on the Fitbit Sense 2.

Pushing the crown on the Pixel Watch is the same as pressing your side button to go to your apps. You’ll keep track of Fitbit-specific metrics such as Active Zone Minutes and a daily readiness score.

But this doesn’t seem to be exactly the same. Google is positioning the Pixel Watch as more of a high-end smartwatch, so it includes some extras such as access to the Google Play Store from your wrist and compatibility with LTE connections (although the cellular version will cost slightly more at $400). Emergency SOS, international calling services, and payment through Google Wallet will also be available for the watch; and like its predecessor, it also includes a compass for navigation. The Pixel Watch’s performance seems snappier than Sense 2’s, but I’ll have to spend time with both devices in order to know for sure.

Watch faces seem much more customizable on the 42 mm Pixel Watch. There are 18 styles that Google says can be highly personalized, and complication options are available, too. This is all familiar territory to anyone who has used an Apple Watch in the past.

Google offers a number of helpful tools and products designed to help you optimize your website for search engines. One of them is called Google Search Console; it helps search engines crawl, index, and find your site and provides lots of insights into how well-ranked your site really is.

With the Pixel smartwatch, you can track steps and calories burned so that you can reach your daily fitness goals. In addition to keeping track of workouts and activity, you’ll get Fitbit-specific metrics like a “ready-to-go” score and a “sleep wave.” You’ll also get six months of free Fitbit Premium, which provides access to additional health metrics and workout programs.

The Pixel Watch will offer the most accurate heart rate tracking on the market thanks to its advanced sensors and machine learning algorithms.

The all-new My Pixel Watch is a smartwatch for athletes, offering the capacity to measure blood oxygen saturation and ECG. It is also able to track distance and speed when the wearer is running. Uniquely, it can also detect falls, giving peace of mind to those who use it.

While the Fitbit Sense 2, Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Apple Watch Series 8 offer a more robust set of features, the one major missing component from the Pixel Watch is its lack of a temperature sensor. All three smart watches do have a heart rate monitor among their features, so that shouldn’t be difficult to live without. More technologically-advanced companies like Google see temperature sensors as an important factor in determining which device includes what features.

Google announces its new Pixel Watch, which is set to be released later this year.

It’s not really surprising that Google didn’t develop its own Tensor processor for the Pixel Watch considering it plays such a big part of the phone experience. Google reveals to us that the Pixel Watch’s system-on-a-chip handles some functions like step counting, GPS and heart rate monitoring, while the main processor will take care of everything else like Wear OS and LTE connectivity.

Pixel Watch early thoughts

With a variety of competition in the market, it can be difficult for a new product to continue. The Pixel Watch might just be the first Android-focused smartwatch that can stand out from the crowded pack. The question is if this will be enough to make it a success.Pixel smartwatch has officially debuted and is Operating with Fitbit wear OS.
