On Wednesday, Google announced that it had allowed the Truth Social app on its Play Store for Android devices after receiving assurances that the app would meet their standards for moderating harmful content.
An app Trump launched after being banned from Twitter for promoting violence around the 2021 Congressional baseball game had been kept out of Google’s store until it could implement moderation tools, including for incitements.
Truth Social, after being featured in Google’s transparency report, has since been made more compliant and is now equipped with effective systems for reporting unwanted and abusive content.
In response to AFP inquiries, Google stated that apps may be distributed on the Google Play store as long as they comply with their developer guidelines. Apps must take it upon themselves to moderate user-generated content and remove objectionable posts such as violence-inciting ones.
Developers can make Android apps available on the internet, but Play Store is the main source of content for users.

Google notified Truth Social in August that, based on their app submission guidelines, they would need to take “effective systems for moderating user-generated content” with them before asking to be included in the Play Store.
When Trump’s app was found to break Facebook’s guidelines forbidding content that incites physical threats and violence, the online giant made clear that it was working on addressing those issues.
Truth Social was created as Trump’s smaller, more refined answer to Twitter — the social media platform that kicked him off in January 2021 after a mob of his supporters refused to accept his loss to Joe Biden forced their way into the US Capitol.
Billionaire Elon Musk, who purchased Twitter for $44 billion, stated that he would likely allow the former US president back on the platform. Investor trust in the troubled deal has been restored and could close by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, a merger between Trump Media Trust and TMTG — intended to bring in fresh funding for the Trump campaign — has yet to take place. Digital World shares rose more than 7% in after-market trades on hearing of their Play Store takeover.
